Q003:
Assalamu Alaikum
Currently I am Christian but I am interested in becoming Muslim.  However, I do not know any Muslims in my area and I am unsure how to perform salat, dress, etc.  I have tried to learn over the Internet, but this is difficult.  I am scared to even approach a Mosque.  I have found some sites and even some books on Islam, but it is confusing without seeing or hearing for correct pronunciation.  I live in MI. Is there anything in my area, or even Toledo, that offers help people that want to convert?
Thank you for your help

Dear Sister
My name is Imam Farooq.  I am at the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo, which is only 30 minutes  from you. You are welcomed to visit with me so we can answer your questions, give you some books, and to show you our Center. The Internet is not always a good source to learn Islam from. You need to have very logical and convincing answers for your concerns, especially at this stage of thinking to revert to Islam, You need to get very solid information about the decision you are about to make. I will be very happy to discuss that with you on the phone or if you want to visit feel free to call me any time. My  Off.# 419 874 3500
Thanks and may God help you to reach the right decision.
Yours,
Imam Farooq

Q002:
Assalamu Alaikum,
I am seeking information about conversion to the Islamic faith. I am currently a Christian but my beliefs and faith are not with the Christian way of thinking but lean heavily towards the Islamic faith. I have talked extensively to a Muslim about the Islamic religion and feel that it would be for the best for me to convert at this time. I can no longer accept or pretend to be Christian.
Any information that you may have would be greatly appreciated. I thank you in advance.

Q001:
How can I become a Muslim and can you help me to become one?

Thank you.
08/20/2001  A001:
Assalamu Alaikum,

I am very delighted to receive your question about how you can become a Muslim? Through our ICGT website. The main requirement is the clarity of mind, heart and thoughts. Try to get rid of all influence of tradition, culture or even religion, and to think deeply about God as the only creator and sustainer of the universe. How many are there? Can there be more than one? And why? Is one of them not enough? Ask many questions and let your feelings, heart and mind travel into what God created. Reason things. What would it be like if there were more than one God? Do they agree? Then one is enough. They might also disagree, so which one to follow or worship! All questions are legitimate till you come to the right conclusion that God is the One and Only, then the rest of the obligations as a way of life are to be learned and practiced at your convenience.

I will be more than happy to help you, you can call me at the office or at my home, or you can give me the honor to welcome you to the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo.

Thank you.

Imam: Farooq Aboelzahab
