Ramadhan
Bonfire

A bonfire was held just before Ramadhan. Hotdogs were roasted and apple cider was used to wash them down. About 9:30 pm the bonfire was douced because of rain. Another bonfire was planned for after Ramadhan because there was so much fire wood left over. Thanks to Nasr Khan for all the fire wood.
Kitchen
The Youth Club had the kitchen the first Sunday after Ramadhan. A simple menu was planned. Thanks to Ahmed Sediqe for making his Afghan Stew and to Salmena Sediqe for making the rice. A big thanks to all the Youth that came early to help prepare everything and making it a successful project/fund raiser for future Youth activities.

December
Kitchen
During December, the Youth Club took the kitchen a second time. Thanks to a well organized calling committee for getting so many youth in the kitchen. If the kitchen were a telephone booth or a volkswagen, we would have won a prize. (If you were born after 1980, you may not understand this reference. Please ask someone born before 1970 about the telephone booth/volkswagen reference.)

2004 - 2005 Officers Elected

Elections were held in May, 2004. There were about 15 members present to vote. The following members were elected:

  1. President - Asem Aboelzahab
  2. Vice-President - Souhaib Hashmi
  3. Treasurer - Yasmeen Jamali
  4. Secretary - Layal Naserdin
  5. Sgt-At-Arms - Adnan Pirzada
Congratulations to the new officers. They have a lot of hard work in front of them. They cannot do everything themselves. They need your help, so come on down to the meetings. Join in and participate. Many kids have complained in the past about various matters but they never come to the meetings to change anything. If you do not come, nothing will be changed. Participation will guarantee your voice gets heard. Things may not change just because you come but they will definitely not change if you do not come.

So join in. This is your Center, your Club. Make it something to be proud of.

Last Fridays will be started to coincide with Family Night. While the adults are involved with their program, the Youth will hold their own program.

First Fridays were suspended when the Spiritual Development Committee started to hold Family Night, on the last Friday of the month.

Past First Fridays

Nov 2000 - Mr. Nadeem Salem talked about Personal Goals and Financial Planning
Dec 2000 - Cancelled because of Ramadhan
Jan 2001 - Imam Farooq Abo-Elzahab had a discussion about Muslim Values.
Feb 2001 - Amjad Qureshi, USN Cmdr, Ret, had a discussion about career opportunities for Muslims in the military.
Mar 2001 - Ahmed Kadri and Abdel Wahab Soliman had a discussion about Cliques.
Apr 2001 - Cherrefe Kadri gave a discussion about traffic violations and what to do if you are stopped. Many of our young people will be driving (their parents crazy), or are already driving (...).Some important points she made were: Do cooperate with the officers, Do not say more than you have to (such as: Oh it was all my fault.) Never try to outrun the bolice.
May 2001 - The Youth had a general sports evening. They played soccer against the Imam, who can kick a mean ball, and volleyball and football. Afterwards there was, what else, Pizza.
June 2001 - Not many kids showed up for this event. The kids that did had a general evening of outdoor activities and a small group discussion before the pizzas arrived. If anyone has heard Br. Yusuf Estes at Masjid Saad or the Islamic Center, he refers to Pizza as "Brain Food". So come on down when things start back up again, after summer vacation, and "Get Smart".
October 2001 - The evening started with Salat-ul-Maghrib. Afterwards, the Youth met with Imam Farooq for a discussion about the September 11 disaster and how Islam looks at such a situation. Questions were raised about suicide and Islam - Islam does not condone suicide. Many other issues were discussed. Salat-ul-Isha followed and after that pizza was consumed.
November 2001 - A Youth group from Wayne United Methodist Church gathered with the Islamic Centers Youth group for an evening of religious exploration. The WUM group was accompanied by about 6 adults. The WUM group was given a tour of the Center, followed by a small talk by Imam Farooq about Islam. Then both groups of youth were broken into little discussion groups for about 15 minutes and then the groups were gathered for a question and answer session. Surprisingly, most of the questions asked were by the Muslim youth about Christianity to the Methodist Minister, who was part of the group.
December 2001 - A group of Muslim Youth and Adults visited Wayne United Methodist Church in Wayne, Ohio, about 20 miles south of Perrysburg. About 20 of the Wayne Youth were participating in both Christmas Carolling and taking part in a live Nativity scene. The live Nativity scene include about 5 youth dress in costumes with a Manger Shelter with live sheep. About 7:30 pm all the youth returned to the Church. Hot chocolate and cookies were served. Then the Wayne Youth, who had been practicing Bell Ringing for the past 3 weeks, performed 4 songs on the Bells. After the Bell Ringing performance the youth returned to the Church basement and had some activities. The Muslim group left about 9:30 pm and returned to the Islamic Center in Perrysburg.
January 2002 - Imam Farooq met with the Youth after a Christian Youth group was not able to attend our meeting for a group discussion.
